Speaker: Prof. Zewen Li

Zewen Li
Biography: Zewen Li, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, currently serves as the Dean of the School of Electrical and Automation Engineering at East China Jiaotong University. He has long been engaged in teaching and research in the field of power systems. He has led three general projects under the National Natural Science Foundation of China, one sub-project under the National Key Research and Development Program, and one project under the Hunan Provincial Natural Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scholars. He has published two monographs, 23 SCI-indexed journal papers, and 41 EI-indexed journal papers. He has been granted 27 invention patents. He has presided over and won one first prize in the Hunan Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award, one gold medal at the Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions, and one second prize in the China Invention Innovation Award. He has also participated in winning one second prize in the National Technology Invention Award (ranked fourth) and ten provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards. He has been selected for the National Hundred, Thousand, and Ten Thousand Talents Project, awarded the title of National Young and Middle-aged Expert with Outstanding Contributions, and appointed as a Distinguished Professor under the Hunan Provincial Furong Scholars Program, a Hunan Provincial Outstanding Young Scientist, and a member of the Hunan Provincial 121 Innovation Talent Project. He also holds the position of Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Distribution Network Protection and Control under the IEEE PES Power System Protection and Control Technical Committee, and serves as a member of the Electrical Theory and New Technology Committee and the Electrical Mathematics Committee of the Chinese Society for Electrical Engineering.
His research primarily focuses on the theory and technology of power grid fault traveling wave location and protection, as well as precise energy flow detection in power systems.
Shuaibing Li
Biography: Shuaibing Li, Professor and Doctoral Supervisor, currently serves as the Associate Dean of the School of New Energy and Power Engineering at Lanzhou Jiaotong University. He is an Executive Director of the IEEE PES Power System Protection and Control Technology Committee, a member of the Intelligent Distributed Energy Committee of the Chinese Association of Automation, a council member of the 5th and 6th Gansu Electrical Engineering Society, a member of the Gansu Electrical Standards Committee, Chair of the High Voltage Committee of the Gansu Electrical Engineering Society, a youth editorial board member of the Journal of Electrical Engineering and Integrated Smart Energy, and a guest editor for journals such as CJEE (Chinese Journal of Electrical Engineering, English Edition).
He has presided over 17 projects, including those funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Natural Science Foundation of Gansu Province. He has published more than 40 SCI/EI-indexed academic papers and has received the First, Second, and Third Prizes of the Gansu Provincial Science and Technology Progress Award (one each), the Zhan Tianyou Youth Science and Technology Award, and three First Prizes of the Science and Technology Progress Award from the Gansu Electrical Engineering Society.
His main research interests include: planning and optimal scheduling of transportation and new energy integrated systems; condition assessment and fault diagnosis of large electrical equipment; nondestructive testing and reliability evaluation of power transmission and transformation equipment and electronic devices; and optimal scheduling and operation control of new energy power systems.

Farhad Shahnia
Biography: Associate Professor Farhad Shahnia received his PhD in Electrical Engineering from Queensland University of Technology (QUT), Brisbane, in 2012. He is currently an A/Professor at Murdoch University. Before that, he was a Lecturer at Curtin University (2012-15), a research scholar at QUT (2008-11), and an R&D engineer at the Eastern Azarbayjan Electric Power Distribution Company, Iran (2005-08). He is currently a Fellow member of Engineers Australia, Senior Member of IEEE, and member of the Australasian Association for Engineering Education.
Farhad's research falls under Distribution networks, Microgrid and Smart grid concepts. He has authored one book and 11 book chapters and 250+ peer-reviewed scholarly articles in international conferences and journals, as well as being an editor of 6 books.
Farhad has won 5 Best Paper Awards in various conferences and has also received the IET Premium Award for the Best Paper published in the IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution journal in 2015. One of his articles was listed under the top-25 most cited articles in the Electric Power System Research Journal in 2015 while one of his 2015 journal articles has been listed under the top-5 most read articles of the Australian Journal of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He was the recipient of the Postgraduate Research Supervisor Award from Curtin University in 2015 and the Australia-China Young Scientist Exchange Award from the Australian Academy of Technology and Engineering in 2016.
Farhad is currently a Subject Editor, Deputy Subject Editor, and Associate Editor of several journals including IEEE Access, IET Generation, Transmission & Distribution, IET Renewable Power Generation, IET Smart Grid, IET Energy Conversion and Economics, and International Transaction on Electrical Energy Systems and has served 40+ conferences in various roles such as General, Technical, Program, Publication, Publicity, Award, Sponsorship, and Special Session Chairs.
Farhad has led the IEEE Western Australia Section as the 2020-2021 Chair, and was the 2019 Founding Chair of the IEEE Western Australia Industrial Electronics Society (IES) Chapter. He was the 2023 Vice-chair of the IES's Technical Committees on Smart Grids.
Omid Mahian
Biography: Dr. Omid Mahian is a professor at Ningbo University, a visiting professor at Imperial College London, and a national young talent. He is currently on the editorial board of the international journals Energy and Renewable Energy, and associate editor of the journals Journal of Thermal Science and Journal of Thermal Analysis and Calorimetry. His research interests include the application of nanotechnology in renewable energy (e.g., nanofluids in solar collectors and solar desalination) and entropy generation and permittivity analysis in energy systems. He has published more than 200 papers in top journals such as Joule, Progress in Energy and Combustion Science, Physics Reports, and Nano Energy, etc. He has been selected as a “Global Highly Cited Scholar” for three consecutive years in 2018-2020. He has been selected as a “Global Highly Cited Scholar” for three consecutive years from 2018 to 2020.
